Mizuki Matsuoka, who majored in sculpture at university, studied three-dimensional expression.
Her encounter with pottery came during a trial class in another department she took while at university. She says she became fascinated by the appeal of clay as a material after experiencing hand-building and raku ware.

Flower shops, metal engraving, clothing, stained glass—
The "crafting" landscape that has been a part of her life since childhood naturally connects to her current work.

Matsuoka's works are characterized by a quiet, sculptural beauty.
Each piece is created with careful attention to the inner spaciousness of the vessel, how it feels in the hand, and the beauty of negative space.

Her work includes unglazed yakishime, which utilizes the natural expression of the clay body, and ash glaze, which changes with use.
Among these, her series of white vessels with silver gilding is particularly striking for its delicate beauty.
